- Being defined as the “disciples” of all the Masters of the dub, the Resident of Saint-Nazaire ones of Cap Roots have preached for already eight years a true return to the roots by distilling their vibes in all the West of France. After having connected the rounds by forging little by little a local base now solid, Cap Roots unloads this year in the vats with “Dub Heritage” very fresh, intended for set on “roots dub stepper”. It is with a certain nostalgia that one approaches the listening of this opus, which is not without pointing out to a good old man “Sachem In Salem” of Zenzile or mythical “Opus Incertum” of High Tone, which had given its noble letters to dub-electro French. You thus suspect that the sound of the Cap Roots falls under a traditional line and ground already well, structured around low doors, of samples and of varied orientalo-tribal instrumentations (“Kingston Funky Dub”, “Jah Man”). This expensive collision of the styles to the dub-electro product of the atmospheres envoûtantes and mystics (“Rodger Meets Mariama”, “Georges' Spoken Dub”), sometimes darker and pessimistic (“Kreisberg Versus Fire”, evoking starting from a length sample the deforestation of Amazonia to the profit of the plantation of soya) but never oppressive. Key electronic remains very well proportioned (thing which becomes rare), never not choking the traditional bases of the one drop which impregnates the album (“Jah Peace Warrior”, “Dub Steppers”, “Black Wax Dub”). It is with final always pleasant to lean on a self-production of this quality ........ Et autant dire que le groupe ne brûle pas les étapes. Après avoir enchaîné les tournées en se forgeant peu à peu une assise locale aujourd’hui solide, Cap Roots débarque cette année dans les bacs avec un «Dub Heritage» tout frais, destiné aux férus de «roots dub stepper». C’est avec une certaine nostalgie que l’on aborde l’écoute de cet opus, qui n’est pas sans rappeler un bon vieux «Sachem In Salem» de Zenzile ou le mythique «Opus Incertum» d’High Tone, qui avaient donné ses lettres de noblesse au dub-électro français. Vous vous doutez donc que le son des Cap Roots s’inscrit dans une lignée classique et déjà bien rôdée, structuré autour de lourdes basses, de samples et d’instrumentations orientalo-tribales variées («Kingston Funky Dub», «Jah Man»). Cette collision des styles chère au dub-électro produit des atmosphères envoûtantes et mystiques («Rodger Meets Mariama», «Georges’ Spoken Dub»), parfois plus sombres et pessimistes («Kreisberg Versus Fire», évoquant à partir d’un long sample la déforestation de l’Amazonie au profit de la plantation de soja) mais jamais oppressantes. La touche électronique reste très bien dosée (chose qui devient rare), n’étouffant jamais les bases traditionnelles du one drop qui imprègnent l’album («Jah Peace Warrior», «Dub Steppers», «Black Wax Dub»).
